The Week 10 Biggest Funding Rounds

Investors appeared to be easing back into action after the long holiday weekend, with only a few standout rounds topping $100 million. However, the week saw a noteworthy $1 billion raise for an AI company, demonstrating continued strong interest in the sector.

1. Serán Bioscience, $200M
   Sector: Biotech
   Details: Bend, Oregon-based Serán Bioscience provides development and manufacturing services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The startup raised over $200 million in a round led by Bain Capital Life Sciences. The funding will be used to build a new commercial-scale manufacturing facility for drug delivery and other services. Founded in 2016, this is the company’s first round with a disclosed amount, per Crunchbase.

2. Twelve, $200M
   Sector: Greentech
   Details: Berkeley, California-based carbon transformation startup Twelve raised a $200 million Series C led by Capricorn Investment Group, Pulse Fund, and TPG. Additionally, the company secured $400 million in project equity led by TPG Rise Climate Fund and $45 million in credit facilities. The funds will help complete AirPlant One, Twelve's first sustainable aviation fuel plant. Founded in 2015, the company has raised nearly $890 million, per Crunchbase.

3. Engine, $140M
   Sector: Business Travel
   Details: Denver-based Engine, formerly known as Hotel Engine, secured a $140 million Series C led by a fund advised by Permira, valuing the startup at $2.1 billion. This represents a 62% increase from its previous $1.3 billion valuation after a $65 million Series B in late 2021. The company, which is profitable and growing its revenue 70% year-over-year, will use the new capital for product development, including flight and rental car bookings. Founded in 2015, Engine has raised $221 million, per Crunchbase.

4. AtoB, $130M
   Sector: Fintech
   Details: San Francisco-based AtoB raised a $130 million Series C led by General Catalyst and Bloomberg Beta. The round, a mix of equity and debt funding, will help the company provide financial products such as fleet cards, instant direct-deposit payroll, and access to bank accounts and savings tools for the transportation industry. Founded in 2019, AtoB has raised $312 million, per Crunchbase.

5. Virtuous Software, $100M
   Sector: Charity
   Details: Phoenix-based Virtuous, which offers fundraising software for nonprofits, raised $100 million in a round led by Susquehanna Growth Equity. The platform helps users build personal relationships with donors to increase fundraising. Founded in 2014, the company has raised nearly $156 million, per Crunchbase.

6. Vero Networks, $80M
   Sector: Internet
   Details: Boulder, Colorado-based Vero Networks, a fiber infrastructure operator and broadband internet provider, completed an $80 million preferred equity financing led by Delta-v Capital and funds managed by Hamilton Lane. Founded in 2017, the company has raised $207 million, per Crunchbase.

7. Air Company, $69M
   Sector: Greentech
   Details: New York-based Air Company, specializing in carbon conversion technology, raised a $69 million Series B led by Avfuel. Founded in 2016, the company has raised $108 million, per Crunchbase.

8. Nura Bio, $68M
   Sector: Biotech
   Details: South San Francisco, California-based Nura Bio, developing therapies for neurological diseases, raised an additional $68 million for a Series A totaling more than $140 million. The funding was led by The Column Group. Founded in 2018, this is the company’s only disclosed round, per Crunchbase.

9. GC Therapeutics, $65M
   Sector: Biotech
   Details: Cambridge, Massachusetts-based GC Therapeutics, which develops cell therapy-based medicines, completed a $65 million Series A led by Cormorant Asset Management. Founded in 2019, GC Therapeutics has raised $75 million, per the company.

10. Picus Security, $45M
    Sector: Cybersecurity
    Details: San Francisco-based Picus Security, a security risk startup, closed a $45 million growth investment round led by Riverwood Capital. Founded in 2013, Picus has raised $80 million, per the company.
