This Week's Journal
Was It Me... Or Was It Fate?
What if the biggest moments of your life were never your decisions?
The company you built.
The investor who said yes.
The job you didn't get.
The city you moved to.
The stranger who became your co-founder.
The person you thought you'd never see again.
Looking back, they all seem inevitable.
But were they?
Lately, life keeps asking me the question.
A friend of mine aced every interview.
The team loved her.
The offer was coming.
Then the hiring manager quit.
The role disappeared overnight.
Another friend thought they had finally closed the door on someone who had once meant everything.
Then, completely by accident, life brought them back into the same room.
Not because they were looking.
Not because they planned it.
Just... because.
It made me wonder.
How many moments in our lives are really ours to control?
As founders, we like to believe everything is the result of hard work.
Work harder.
Build faster.
Network more.
Make better decisions.
And while all of that matters...
Every founder I know can point to one moment that changed everything.
A random introduction.
A missed opportunity.
A rejection that became a new beginning.
A chance conversation.
A door that unexpectedly opened.
Looking back, our lives make perfect sense.
Looking forward, they almost never do.
Maybe that's why we spend so much time asking why things happened.
Why that investor said no.
Why that relationship ended.
Why we didn't get the job.
Why we met someone at exactly the right ** or wrong ** moment.
Maybe those moments aren't there to give us answers.
Maybe they're there to give us choices.
So maybe fate doesn't choose our destination.
Maybe it simply brings us back to the same doors...
And asks us a question.
Will we walk through them again...
Or close them for good?
