Do you let yourself be happy?
This weekend at Portola, I saw one of the most beautiful sets I’ve ever seen from Swedish House Mafia. And the words from one of the songs stayed with me: “Happiness is sad.”
There’s something bittersweet about a beautiful moment. You’re living it, but a part of you already knows you’ll miss it.
Standing there, listening to the music, I realized how happy I felt. My life finally feels stable. I have my kids, friends I love, work that excites me. For once, there isn’t chaos taking up all the space.
And I wondered: how often have I missed this feeling because I was too busy thinking about what was missing?
Maybe you’ve done it too.
You get the job, then worry about the next promotion. You finally have a free afternoon, then feel guilty for being unproductive. You’re surrounded by people you love, but your mind is somewhere else.
We spend so much time trying to make life better. Sometimes we forget to enjoy the parts that already are.
I don’t think we can choose happiness in every circumstance. Some seasons are hard, and no amount of positive thinking changes that.
But I’m learning to let a good moment count. To enjoy it without needing everything else to be figured out, or knowing how long it will last.
You’re allowed to be happy before your life is perfect.
So this week, I’d love to know: what’s making you happy? A person, a song, a small moment you’re still thinking about?
